On 27 May 2019 Helsinki Deaconess Institute organized the first introductory training with police officers from the Helsinki Police Department. 19 police officers from the prevention team attended the session which focused on: understanding the specific positions of vulnerability among Roma migrants in Finland, raising awareness on the stereotypes and prejudices imposed on the community and understanding the forms of intolerance, discrimination and violence affecting the group and their impact. The training was organized in cooperation with the Finnish Roma association Romano Missio, which hold a separate training session on interactions between Finnish Roma youth and police officers, and with Hirundo drop in service for vulnerable EU migrants.
